The CEO Skills No MBA or Accelerator Can Teach

01.

You’ve achieved product–market fit. Maybe even raised a seed round.

But now what?

02.

Founders quickly learn that intuition and hustle aren’t enough to scale a team, navigate crisis, or lead through investor scrutiny.

03.

That truth hit home for us as mentors. Again and again, we heard early-stage founders admit: “I’m not sure I’m really a CEO”, “I don’t know how to lead this thing now that it’s getting real.”

04.

They had the vision, the product, even the funding. What they lacked was the confidence and capability to truly lead.

So we built Pivot CEO to fix that.

We teach what MBAs and accelerators leave out — the decision-making, team-building, and crisis-leadership skills that only seasoned CEOs know, because they’ve lived it.

This isn’t theory. It’s high-pressure, real-world simulation.

Walk away with:

The mindset and muscle memory of a true CEO

Practical experience making boardroom-level decisions

Confidence to lead, even

in uncertainty

Because it’s not just about surviving the journey - It’s about leading it.

ABOUT PIVOT CEO

Why We Built Pivot CEO Academy

Being a CEO is the hardest job in startups — and the least supported. Accelerators teach you how to pitch. Business school teaches theory. Neither trains you for the daily pressure of leading a company.

We built Pivot Academy to provide guided practice on the messy, people-heavy parts of the job — setting direction, rallying a team, making hard calls with incomplete data, and owning every outcome.

Practice high‑stakes leadership before the stakes are real.

WHY US

What Makes Pivot CEO Different?

All signal, no fluff - and always tied to real-life issues and work.

Pivot CEO Academy is a hands-on leadership lab for first-time CEOs and founders.

It’s not a start-up how-to course. It’s a cohort-driven, action-based learning experience that mirrors the reality of leading a high-growth company.

Our program combines real-world case studies, role-playing, and AI simulations to mirror the challenges of leading a high-growth company.

What People Are Saying

I have had the privilege of knowing and working with Saul Orbach for many years and vouch for his integrity, skills and broad spectrum of business knowledge.
That he is leading the Pivot CEO Academy is testimony to its quality and value. Please do read on.

There are professional CEOs. There are aspiring and innovative entrepreneurs. However, genuinely successful entrepreneurial CEOs are truly a unique breed.
Traditional MBA programmes (average cost $63,000) aim to develop executive management skills. Many traditional MBA graduates will become professional CEOs.

Pivot CEO Academy is purpose designed and built for founders, whose venture is under way and thus in need of an adept and evidentially skilled CEO, rather than a mere aspirant one.

No different to their would-be professional investors, wise founders will avoid rolling the dice on whether they will, by sheer happenstance and hard work, turn out to be the adept and accomplished CEO that their venture deserves.

A CEO invested in and equipped with the character, courage knowledge and tools need to become one of the greats.

It is this very select group of wise and hungry founders that the Pivot CEO Academy seeks as graduates.

TESTIMONIALS
What People Are Saying

Rob invested in me and the team to accelerate delivery and focus on the customer. He trained us up to become Scrum Master's and Product Owners in a most unconventional but highly effective way: We took a 1 hour online course on Demingway. We then met as a team to participate in a small number of highly structured workshops -- topics included empirical process control in scrum, lean canvas, roles and accountabilities, that made us think deeply and helped us understand our deliverables. It was from this training that I was able to pass my CSM and bring value to my team.

TESTIMONIALS
What People Are Saying

Rob in an exceptionally talented thoughtful leader in learning science and software engineering. We were able to make our Harvard-Microsoft Adaptive Learning Open Source Initiative (ALOSI) a reality due to his unique abilities in organizational collaboration via Scrum, program leadership and vision and pushing for broad goals for the project. I'm grateful to Rob for his key contributions in organizing the open source community, leading code review, performance engineering, deployment thinking and effective communication. Working with Rob on complex engineering and learning science project is a superb experience.

TESTIMONIALS
What People Are Saying

I had the great pleasure of working with Rob on the extensive collaboration between McKinsey Academy and edX. Rob's leadership on the project spanned bridging executive teams, building an optimal development organization and determining the ultimate technical architecture, all while stewarding edX internal priorities and fostering the burgeoning Open edX community. It is an impressive body of work.

Rob has the rare ability to understand technology stacks and engineering team dynamics and at a very deep level with an uncompromising focus on business goals. He's able to ensure technology and strategy are never at odds. And perhaps most importantly, he garners the respect of his executive peers and technical teams through his knowledge, constant insights and integrity.

What People Are Saying

From time-to-time in your professional career you're fortunate enough to work with people like Rob who inspire you, drive you, and help you to see opportunities where others only see risks or complications.
Simply put, Rob is one of the most entrepreneurial people I've had the privilege of working with. His vision, imagination, and bold ambition serve as an inspiration to me, and his careful mentoring and well-timed interventions help the teams that he leads to succeed and have also helped me to succeed as a professional.
Rob's leadership of the Microsoft Professional Program core team (which he subsequently handed off to me after it achieved a sufficient state of maturity) was a "master class" in entrepreneurial leadership. I'm grateful for our business partnership and friendship, and thank Rob for challenging and inspiring me to be the best professional and leader I can be.

TESTIMONIALS
What People Are Saying

During this time Rob managed to bring immense value to our organization as on top of coaching his line of business he boosted the agile coaching skills of all the agile coaches in our Center of Excellence.

Rob coached our Scrum masters, PMs and managers on continuous backlog management, effective big room planning, manage dependencies more effectively, how to use Non-Violent Communication and how to use Large Scale Estimation method for initial estimation of our roadmap features.
As OpenAI entered our lives, Rob built an interactive Product Manager workshop for OpenAI including prompt engineering guide for writing epics & stories. and led a hackathon effort to build an internal tool for PMs based on OpenAI.
it was impressive to see how Rob managed to map organization challenges and help us improve our productivity.
